The Amherst community is mourning the sudden loss of Jason Beckman, a beloved educator and coach whose legacy spanned nearly 30 years in the Amherst Central School District.
Beckman, 52, died unexpectedly after his vehicle entered the Niagara River near Bird Overlook, leaving colleagues and students stunned and heartbroken.
Known for his commitment as a physical education teacher at Amherst Middle School and as both varsity football and bowling coach, Beckman inspired generations with his passion for student growth and his energetic spirit.
His interests extended beyond school â he was an avid fisherman, photographer, and traveler who valued time with family and nature.
Beckman is survived by his wife Lori and their three children.
Memorial service details and options for remembrance donations were shared, honoring his lifelong dedication and kindness.

Governor Kathy Hochul has unveiled West Side Homes, a $23 million affordable housing development delivering 49 apartments across 11 new buildings on Buffaloâs West Side.
